North East Enterprise Bond (NEEB), a Newcastle-based third sector organisation, has set up SkillsBridge, a five year programme that will deliver bespoke, sustainable skills to the voluntary and community sector by tapping into expertise from the private sector.

SkillsBridge will target the voluntary and community sector in the region, investing in organisations and initiatives and giving them the expertise and tools to succeed during a time when support from traditional sources is drying up. The project will achieve this by matching up proven experts from the private sector to mentor organisations that would benefit from assistance in the voluntary and community sector.

SkillsBridge will be launched by NEEB at a special breakfast briefing event on Tuesday 7th June from 8.00-9.30am

Private and voluntary sector companies can register for a place at the breakfast briefing by calling SkillsBridge on 0191 275 5059 or sending an email to aiden.regan@northeastenterprisebond.org by Friday 27th May.

OPPORTUNITY TO BE INVOLVED WITH THE BYKER CENTRE

Slowly developing at the top of Byker Hill is a project which could have a huge impact on the Tyneside arts world in years to come.

There, a small group of us is changing St. Michael’s church and grounds into an arts and heritage centre which will not only serve the local east end population but will also have a regional importance because of its stunning position which gives spectacular views over Newcastle, Gateshead and the Tyne Gorge.

On July 14th the first phase of its redevelopment will be opened – its Community Garden. One of its attractions will be an amphitheatre for open air performances, which will have the magnificent view as its backdrop.

We are looking for artists of all kinds, visual, performing, musical and literary to help us make the most of the facilities we are developing.

Starting from the Opening in July we hope to begin developing a programme of activities both inside and outside the church, initially involving the local community but also gradually attracting regional, national and international visitors!

If you are interested in getting involved contact Phil Kitchen at sphilkitchen@yahoo.com
