Are you dyslexic?

Do people with dyslexia have a special talent for business or do they simply have a narrow range of career options? Or is there something else that we don’t yet know about driving their choices?

Blue Sky Think and SES want to find out more because, whatever the explanation, this mismatch raises questions about how we prepare people for the world of work and how dyslexia impacts on those who choose to embark on enterprise journeys. It’s important because of the startling number of people affected by the issue.

We’d like to invite entrepreneurs with dyslexia operating at every stage of business; from planning, through start-up to running established companies, to help shed light on dyslexia and business development by participating in this research.

Japan: artists residency database launched

The Japan Foundation launches AIR_J, a new website with information on Artist-in-Residence programmes across Japan in both Japanese and English.

Artist-in-Residence (AIR) is a short-term residence program to support creative activities of artists, creators, and scholars. AIR_J website provides information on AIR programs in Japan, such as the outline, achievements, and application requirement of each program, to those living abroad who are interested in AIR programs and culture of Japan. It also offers the cross-searchable database of AIR programs, FAQ, interviews and essays to update the user with the latest information of AIR programs in Japan and abroad.

Launch of culture jobs international

Culture Jobs International (CJI) is a new European website that keeps cultural operators informed about jobs in Europe, and enables cultural organisations to recruit from across Europe. Our main collaborator is Changing Room (Trans Europe Halles project to stimulate cross-border mobility of cultural operators).

Summer School for Artist Teachers, BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art

This three-day intensive course aims to further your enthusiasm for making art. The course, led by artist Tanya Axford, will be a chance to explore the process of making art. Throughout the course, participants will have the opportunity to consider their own artistic practice and how it might be developed within a supportive and creative environment.

Tuesday 31 August – Thursday 2 September 2010

Tanya Axford is based in Newcastle and has exhibited extensively in the UK. She is represented by Workplace Gallery, Gateshead. Northumbria University staff also teach on the summer school.

The summer school forms an essential component of the MA Fine Art and Education and is an exciting and innovative collaboration between Northumbria University and BALTIC. The fee for the summer school is paid by Northumbria for those students entering the MA.

It is a great taster for those thinking about undertaking the MA in future years.

Presentations by current students of the MA Fine Art and Education
Saturday 4 September, 10.30 – 13.00, Level 1 Cinema, BALTIC
Presentations will be made by current students of the MA Fine Art and Education as part of the Summer School for all artist teachers wanting to pursue the MA Fine Art and Education.
