Big Mouth project – visual artist opportunity, Tees Valley Arts
4 visual artists are required to work on the Big Society Big Mouth project, powered by V the national youth volunteering charity, run locally by Tees Valley YMCA.
Friday 11th March 1pm–4.30 pm: each artist will prepare 4 boards (A0 size); apply outline designs (based on words and phrases to be supplied)
Friday 12th March 10am–4.30pm: each artist will work with young people to add colour and other imagery to the boards in acrylic paint – completion of all boards may not be possible
Venue: MIMA, Middlesbrough
All materials are provided
The young people taking part are a mix of those who have been involved in the Big Mouth project, plus others who will drop in during the day; exact numbers cannot be given, but YMCA personnel will be there all day to ensure everyone’s safety and comfort.
The boards may be finished after the Big Mouth event days by the core group of young people, and will then be placed in various youth and community centres across Teesside. There is an intention to create an art trail for these works once they are all installed in their various destinations.
Please note: the core group of young people want to use this project to promote a positive image of young people and their concerns, to discourage young people from making their town ugly through mindless graffiti, and to show that some graffiti-style art can be really beautiful. Thus the overall style of the works produced is to be vibrant graffiti style.
Fee per artist: £295

Due to short time scales, we will make a paper selection on Weds 9th March and will let people know by phone on that day if they have been selected.
Please note all artists must be able to show TVA a current (not older than 2 years) CRB original certificate and evidence of current public liability insurance.
