Do people with dyslexia have a special talent for business or do they simply have a narrow range of career options? Or is there something else that we don t yet know about driving their choices? Blue Sky Think and SES want to find out more because, whatever the explanation, this mismatch raises questions about how we prepare people for the world of work and how dyslexia impacts on those who choose to embark on enterprise journeys. It s important because of the startling number of people affected by the issue. We d like to invite entrepreneurs with dyslexia operating at every stage of business; from planning, through start-up to running established companies, to help shed light on dyslexia and business development by participating in this research. So, as well as contributing to the research, you ll discover if the experience of others mirrors your own and, perhaps, learn a few strategies to help you take your own business forward. At the conclusion of the research each participant will be provided with copies of the research findings. We ll be running a series of focus groups at Durham University Business School at which you ll meet other dyslexic entrepreneurs. In the focus groups we hope to hear about your experiences of starting and running a business, why you choose to start your own business and what were the key challenges and opportunities you faced. The groups sessions will be taking place at the end of August and early September and will start at 6pm and will last for approximately 90 minutes. Due to the support of SES we will be able to reimburse any reasonable travel expenses incurred in attending the workshop and we ll provide a relaxing environment to work in which will include a light buffet, soft drinks and a glass of wine.
